William's first visit

 Wednesday May 20th ... William is checking out the Nashville Airport shoe shine just like Grandpa likes to do. Also wants to try out why Grandpa always has a newspaper in his hands.

At William's first flight the captain himself pinned the wings on.

















Auntie Sarah and Uncle-to-be Wade came for dinner to welcome Helen and William too. It was a lovely warm evening.

William liked it outdoors too.

He is walking in his Auntie's footsteps. He likes pickles too.

And he loved the mango cream!!! After he had most of an avocado.

In the evening he loves a bath.

Fun, fun.

William was so busy playing. This is serious business.

 And it is so wonderful when Mom reads from a book.

 

William is a pro now in sitting. And he can entertain himself for a long time.










Taking socks off is a favorite past-time.

It is Good Friday. It is time to take the Christmas cards down.

I so like my mail from friends and family ... but it is time.

William, William, will you please help!

Sheep to Shawl cancelled

All packed and nowhere to go!!!                                                      Received a call this afternoon that the event (see previous blog) for tomorrow is cancelled due to the forcasted weather. We are supposed to get maybe 2 inches of rain, thunderstorms and maybe even hail. It is safe to say that that might keep most visitors away anyway. And for once I had done pretty well preparing myself.                                                                                                                  Oh, well ...

I had worked eagerly to start the scarf. Bobbins all secured in their "ladders" for the trip to Meadow Farm.











I am quite pleased with the effect so far. It is sometimes hard to invision what it will look like when you use several different colors and even varigated thread. White (as most lace is) is so much easier.                    
But now this will probably be put away for a while because other things have scooted up the list of things to do.

So much I need or want to do ...... so little time.

Oh, wait ... have to put the things for the display back to where they should be. Sigh.

I volunteered

 Last month Sarah, James and I took Schatzi and Jimmy for a walk. Meadow Farm Park is very close to us and very nice.

Jimmy is interested but Schatzi thinks these creatures look too much like her ... just not so pretty.

The sheep on the other hand doesn't care much for Jimmy.

Jimmy was very interested in EVERYTHING.

Ah, bacon.

At the Meadow Farm Museum they told me that they had a "Sheep to Shawl" event on Saturday April 16. I like events like that so I am going to demonstrate lacemaking.

One drawback: now I have to get ready for it. Lacemaking is more then making doilies. I had a pattern for a shawl I always wanted to make. This is the perfect opportunity to get started. Bobbins have to be wound. The pattern asks for 82 pairs = 164 bobbins!

 Thank goodness I have a winder.

Almost done! The variegated thread is hand-dyed silk from Denmark and I had it for a long time. The other 4 solid shades of purple/violet are also silk - Tussah-Seide 20/2 Zuercher-Stalder AG Kirchberg Switzerland. Those I bought last August in Brugge Belgium.

  

Finally, the "hanging on" (starting). It is so tedious.

But soon I am on my way. Hope I have the shawl done by next winter, hahaha.

Sheep to Shawl
For all ages. Meadow Farm is shearing its sheep and taking the wool through the entire process from sheep to shawl. Spinning, weaving and natural dyes are all part of this process. Come try your hand at some of these activities. Make a wool craft to take home. Information: Anna Truong, 501-2130.

William's busy week continues

We needed to go shopping. Kohl's was on our list first but we got it wrong and ended up going to Mt Juliet first and since some of us were hungry ... lunch at Olive Garden. They even had a children's menu. Not that William needs it yet but he liked the paper.

He found out that he needed to tip the bottle up for something to come out.

After our shopping and after Kohl's we went on the Greenway which starts there (at Kohl's). William was exhausted!

Spring has definitely sprung. Love even the tiniest flowers.

On the way back we saw this little guy. A groundhog.

He didn't mind us at all.

He let us have a good look at him (or her?)

We went along the Stones River. My, my, not another Nashville flood coming? Look how high it already is.

Today (Sunday 3rd of April) in the afternoon Helen was giving a READing Paws Training. James and I had fun taking William out. First we stopped and bought a cap and sandals and then we went to the Cheekwood Botanical Garden. After all, we have a membership and really should take advantage of it.







First thing we found out that the Daffodil Society had a competition/exhibition there. That was so interesting. There must have been hundreds of different kinds.

One category was called 'Design' and there were some very special arrangements.
















This was a tiny vase with tiny flowers.

Almost life size statue. Isn't the shivering boy on the left just so cute?

It is still early spring but so much was already blooming ... besides the dogwoods.

This couple was so intensely taking pictures, it was funny. The lady had just taking a picture on her tummy but was just getting up when I was snapping.

 There is a Burr Garden but since there were steps we didn't go there with the stroller. But here was a garden for William.

Then we took a picnic break for William in the education building (after we changed the 'you know what'). Took this picture with a 'long arm'.

Asked a nice couple to take this one ... of course with my camera.
