Friday March 17
Aghhh, we had another excursion cancelled. What now? Money got automaticly put back into our account but that was not the purpose. Hard to find info about available tours.
We had docked. This is a photo out of our cabin. We decided to just take the shuttle and do a wander around.
Through immigration and outside we entered a shuttle, walked all the way to the back and then were gently asked to leave because it was full with a few others who had boarded behind us. We were told that the next bus would be called and asked to hurry.
Well, just then a bus arrived across the street and we checked it out. It was a hop-on-hop-off and a "little girl" told us that it was $5 for a one-and-ahalf drive in a circle or $10 for a day-pass for each. Sounded good to us so we went upstairs. She had given us a map of the tour and the stops. She went around to collect money but walked right passed us. When we wanted to get out at the first hop-off we asked why she had passed us and she looked flustered and appologized a lot, told us to pay on the next. Ok.
This stop looked .......
This part right next door wanted entry money (didn't have the currency) but it didn't matter because it was some sort of replica, didn't look that interesting and we gave it a miss.
We were on one of the main streets and it was busy. To cross it you can go down into an underpass, which we did, and go up the other side. To the left: steps with painted bookshelves
To the right: escalator, which started when you approached.
We had maps and I also had a map on my phone. Can't remember whether I reported that a fellow traveler had told me that she had an app which lets her download on demand the ability to have roaming when she travels. I had installed Airalo and I got 5K for 30 days for $13. Not much to loose. I got a map here. And a wander is always an adventure. Thought of our daughter Helen here. Probably the kind of work she does.
We had seen a church steeple and tried to find it. Looks definately Christian but where is the steeple we saw?
James waved me to come, we went in and a lady led us through to the other side.
And there it was.
The entry had been very strange. We saw a gift shop and walls with info. I priest showed us up the stairs. The sacristy was modern but with many colorful windows.
This was in the stairway. I would have loved to know the story behind this.
Downstairs again we took a little time on the history. This building was the 4th.
More wandering around. But the map didn't show much of interest. We decided to find the hop-on again.
Might this be a taekwondo place? Helen and William both have official certificates for their dan from South Korea.
Interesting.
Well, we eventually were back at the same place where we had hopped off. We waited for a while but there was no telling when it might come. A few steps further was the shuttle bus and it seemed to be waiting for us. We decided that actually we had enough.
A picture from the shuttle. These guys, in all sort of sizes, seemed to be standing around everywhere. This was a parking lot.
Yes, welcome back.
Yes, time to chill.
And lunch time. Guess what day it is?
How lucky are we that we are already back on board? It started to rain and didn't seem to stop.
Lovely time in the Horizons on Deck 10. We played our game and had a beer (even though it was not happy hour, ha-ha).
Sue and Phil joined us up there and we had again nice conversations. Btw they are from England but live on Cyprus. When it was time we decided to go to dinner and share a table.
The entertainer tonight at 9:30 pm was Aiden Soon who plays the harmonica amazingly. We had seen him several days before and liked him.
I love that you all make the best of what could have been a stressful day. I must say, James looks very happy and relaxed!
