Trip Day 4 Part 2

More from Friday

Our guide Stephen had sugested that anybody who wanted to could join him up the mountain to the big ski-jump. We walked to the T-bane station (underground) at the National Theater and used our cards to go all the way to the end station. That ride took about 30 minutes and was very nice to look out of the window as closer we got to the top.

We got out at the top. Here a photo of the sculpture on top. Not sure about it, sorry. And from there it was a nice easy walk downhill.

Considering how bad the storm was Monday, doing so much damage in the country, we were so lucky with the weather yesterday and today. Just perfect. Seeing Oslo from the top too gave it a new perspective.

A restaurant halfway with a nice view, but we were not stopping. Only photo-opportunities.

Yes, a statue of a ski-jumper.

First I thought this was the ski-jump but I was wrong. This was only the one for children. Really? It's what guide Stephen said.

3:37 we are at Holmenkollen. First we see this church.
My comment: First they go to church, then they jump.

There it is. The Holmenkollen ski-jump. Famous for competitions and even Olympic games.

Sculpture of one of the Kings.

In summer this place has other entertainment here too. This is a slalom simulator...

A very VERY huge stone troll on the other side looking at the jumpers.

The cafe is closed. Boo. But around the corner is a little portable place selling refreshments and ice-cream.

Our view from there. At the very top people are being harnest for a (really fast) zipline ride. And when we leave, Betty and Marc (mother and son) are not with us. They went for the zipline experience.

The rest of us walk to the Holmenkollen Station and take the train or tram or T-bane down again.

This was a very nice afternoon suggestion from our guide. To top it off, James' suitcase arrived soon after we were back too. He unpacked it only not to find his razor. The blades had been in his handluggage. The nice young man at the hotel desk told us where to go and we went to find the Kiwi supermarket.
Not only did they have the exact razor but also very nice beer. We were thirsty!

After James had showered and shaved and fresh clothes on we went out to the same area where we had seen some tables outside to have a bit for dinner.

We had ordered, were talking and I was trying to take a selfie when the waitress obviously was doing a photo-bombing. I saw it when she came around to put the drinks down.

On the way back to the hotel we saw this drive into another hotel with these lines of light inlaid. It looked better than in the photo.

In the evening it gets cold quickly so we wanted something warming in the hotel bar.

Tonight we have to set the alarm for tomorrow morning for sure. Suitcases in front of the door before 7:30 am, breakfast, the bus is leaving at 8:30 am to see another area in this country.
