Family Trip - Day 13 - Rothenburg o.d. Tauber

Sunday July 7

Breakfast was included in the hotel and it was very nice. "Strengthened" we went to walk the city wall. This is really an amazing experience.

First James and I walked "downstairs" along the street and we could see the wall the whole time which was interesting. Later we joined the others "upstairs" for some time too.

Once in a while we "lost" and then "found" each other. 

Going up onto the Rathaus Tower (City Hall tower) is really a must too. I have done it twice in my life, once with my Dad and once with James in 2014.

James and I find a little bench in the shade. Could those be our people up there?

After we heard about the others' tower visit we separate. It is Sunday and there is a craft market going on. And the shops are finally open. Shop times are highly regulated in this town. One shop owner told us that she could get heavily fined.

James and I enter one of the few protestant churches in the south of Germany. We had to pay a fee to be allowed in and fast the comment "strange to have to pay to be allowed to pray on a Sunday morning" but I quickly added that I understood that taking care of these buildings wasn't cheap. We sat for a while. As always, so many really old masterpieces to admire. 

And yes, a beautiful organ. Wished I could have heard it.

Strangely there was another altar upstairs.

Outside we found Helen and William at the "camino statue" and walked with them for a while.

My lunch salad with smoked trout on top.

James and I took some of those "snowballs" to Sarah+kids room. We all decided that they look better than they taste.

Later Helen took William and Caleb (her godson) out for a little treat by themselves.

She also had to mend Owen's new purchase, the swan. Good Auntie!

Downstairs a sign says: tower hight 52 meters, 220 steps, 360' panoramic view!

And yes, the traffic light is still there ... just like 50 years ago.

Found a place serving German food with a table for 7. Not so easy.
