Trip Day 11 - last day Vienna

Sunday

It is strange to not go to church to worship on a Sunday. Seems like all the churches here are catholic and since only catholics are supposed to participate in the communion we decided to do a good job packing instead and get up-to-date with everything else.

3 nights in Vienna and the pre-trip was done. 12:15 pm a bus would take us to the ship which took about 20 minutes. Again we saw the Donau Kanal and Bernie explained that spray artists (graffiti) are allowed to do their work so they don’t do it at historic houses.  This way they even have somehow an honor code.

Arriving on the ship we were welcomed and immidiately taken to our cabin. We refreshed a little and went to have lunch. The ship is so nicely decorated. It really is fun.

We like to take a photo of the program for the day so we can look whenever and not miss anything. It is "complicated". So much happening!

Our door.

Those who had arrived that morning from USA went with the shuttle bus into town but we ... I lost!

At 5:30 pm was a welcome briefing in the lounge and of course a safety briefing with Captain Ladislav.

Other briefings and "port talk" by the 4 trip leaders.
At 6:30 pm dinner in the dining room. OMG, my slice of beef with horseradish gravy was devine. I had forgotten to order half a portion but I think that was a good thing this time.

At 8 pm was another shuttle bus going to the Christmas Market at the Rathaus. This was supposed to be one of the best. I wanted to go and James was wavering but then decided to come too. We both had a great time.

In the bus we were told that all the way on the right side was a Nativity Walk about which I was very excited. That's were we headed first.

That was the only disappointment. The individual shadow boxes didn't seem to have anything to do with Christmas or the Holy Family.

Fairies? Not sure what they have to do with Christmas.

But there were a lot of interesting things to see. Too bad we were so full with food already.

James discovered this stall. There must have been a thousand or more cookie cutters. And there were several little boxes with really tiny cutters which were just perfect for one of my projects (stay tuned). James got an A+ from me.

Oh wow. This looks pretty much like a Nativity shook look like.

You can not go to a  Christmas Market and not have Glühwein (or Orange Ingwer Punch).

It was 10 pm when we were back and we found our beds already turned down. Yup, being spoiled.

The ship will start sailing after midnight. And it is also going through some locks. Another adventure has started. See you tomorrow!

  1. The market is lovely. The little vignettes are charming, but I agree with you - I'm not sure what is Christmasy about them. Maybe some local Christmas folklore or stories that we aren't familiar with?
