Monday July 1
We walked with our luggage to the car in the mountain. I still think it was such a neat place. Soon we were back in Germany. At 9:40 am we stop at a highway restplace for breakfast.
While James, Helen, William and I were driving from Salzburg to Lechbruck am See, the others Sarah, Wade, Caleb, Colin and Owen had landed shortly after 8 am in Munich, got the other rented car and also were driving to Lechbruck. They were at the house first.
When we arrived 4 of them were asleep. Caleb greeted us very awake. Helen took some lovely photos.
When everybody else was awake and the initial greeting...
... some explored the place and some went to a supermarket to fill fridge and pantry. Here are photos from Helen exploring with the boys.
A lot of planning had gone into this trip for months. Of course we had hoped that we would see also family living in Germany. My sister Ute was able to come to Lechbruck for a few days and we had discussed that this day (Monday) would be the best to pick her up from Füssen. She already had two train changes. I didn't want her to do any more.
Glad we had arranged that because the drive (20 or 30 minutes) was gorgeous. Helen and William came with me. And Helen took photos out of the driven car. We even had a glimpse to see Schloss Neuschwanstein but could not stop for a good photo.
The itinarary said she would arrive at 17:55 on gleis 3. There was not much more on this station. We had to wait a while.
We had to wander around a bit and I had to relocate the parked car. Parking is always a bit more of a challenge in Germany. Not enough places.
Ute arrived and all was well. Drive back went fast.
At the house the other were up and everybody pretty much settled into places. It was a huge house supposedly sleeping 12 and very nice. We were 10 with Ute.
Sarah had made dinner for the first night. Afterwards Ute had a surprise for the boys. She put a pile of coins on the table. In Germany the currency is Euros of course. Then she asked the boys to each find a coin with a 2 on it, then 1, then 50 (cents) 20, 5, 2 and 1. Each boy had then one of each kind and the pile was gone. It was an excellent lesson for them and fun.
She had also brought a couple of photos left by our parents. This one must be more than 65 years old. Sigh.
Well, we had a lot of talking to do and finally we had to fall into bed.
