The Saga continues

Attitude is everything. The sun is shining. The sky is blue. We are busy. I sewed masks for the hospital where Sarah works. Actually for her pharmacy department which wanted the front to be polyester. As I always like to find an efficient way to do things I wrote a pattern which is on my lace and quilt blog (see tab above). I made 33 to give away so far.

And I made some for us.

This one has a wire in the middle.

There is lots of scary news on TV but then there is also some humor on FaceBook. Everybody is trying to find something to laugh about. I forgot to take a screenshot of the 4 Saint Bernard dogs with the toilette rolls instead little whiskey barrels under their chins ... ready to help.

We can't visit with our friends. We can't invite them over or play a game of cards for a meal. But the cooking still goes on. When I make our favorite recipe of pork and spinach pie it asks for half of this and half of that. So I have always made two. We love having leftovers in the fridge.

Bonus: bringing a portion each to our friends Julie and Irma. The are both widows living around the corner all by themself. One time they don't have to cook. Of course we put it in front of their doors, rang the bell and stepped back. Distancing!

This is what I found March 18 and shared it with friends:

from Martin Luther (the German):
Back in 1527, a deadly plague hit Martin Luther’s town of Wittenberg and he wrote a letter to a friend.
“I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and does not tempt God.”
(published here: Luther's Works Volume 43 pg 132 the letter "Whether one may flee from a Deadly Plague" written to Rev. Dr. John Hess)

Unfortunately there is not really very much we can do for others. Sigh. We are warned that people could have the virus, not know it and could infect others.

But we can go for our walks every day. We have the goal of at least 10,000steps each day. We try to do whatever we can to stay healthy. The walks get boring in the same neighborhood. We ventured out into the next. Wide streets with hardly anybody around. No problem. One day we ended up at the Middle School. Another time at the High School. Of course they are deserted. We discovered a play ground with a splash place. That would be fun in summer, if...

Spring has sprung. In our front:

The redbud tree in the back:

And my amaryllis still going strong. God's creation gives us so much pleasure.

And there are the little things. Boiled eggs for breakfast always give us the opportunity to make fun (the overturned empty eggshell). It always has with the children. Nobody was ever surprised but everybody pretended. I took a photo for the letter I try to write to William every week. I hope he remembers that we did that when he was with me in Germany two years ago. Have to have fun.

But thanks to "the gadgets", we can do FaceTime with the grandsons. A few days ago I played battleship with Caleb. He did really well. It was fun.

Stay home. Stay healthy.
