Trip Day 26

Saturday September 2

This day was a day with lots of talking with Ute. Well, the main-reason why we came: chatting with my sister. The weather is still not very favorable but it looks as if we might NOT get wet if we go for a walk. Too much eating and not enough moving is really not good. At about 2 pm we ventured out.

Ute's house is at the end of a cul de sac. The far right one in this picture. It's wonderful property for German circumstances with lots of garden. In the cul de sac is a walkway between the lots. The other times we went around the house und parallel to the street in that direction. 

This time we went to the main road to cross it. I remembered that there was a walkway and Ute told us that we will come to a very nice trail which used to be where a coal train track was. Actually, when I was here with William (6 years ago) there was a big strawberry field (pick your own) and Maren went with us to harvest some.

This is the crossing where that trail is. Continuing straight you come to a farmer who sells eggs and milk. 

We turned right. This trail is called "Trasse" and it was very nice with lots of green. Some biciclers where on the way too, after all, it's Saturday.

This is not an add for bicycles but it shows them "in time". 

The writing: "Fahrräder mögen sich verändern aber radfahren ist zeitlos".

Bicycles might change but riding them is timeless.

On the way there were also some of these around our feet. "Hazelnüsse".

When we came to the road which is called "Überm Knöchel" it was not far enough yet so we crossed that street and continued. But then we came to a busy street and didn't want to walk there so we turned around until we came to this bridge and there was another nice pedestrian/bikers way. 

The Aldi close to Ute's house. Well, we had to go in just to have a look. Looks pretty much the same as ours with some items exactly like ours.

Except for this. Many times when you buy bottles with drinks you have to pay a deposit. But you can bring the empty bottles back to these stations. You insert the bottles, the machine reads how much deposit you paid and gives you a piece of paper with the amount which you get back at the cash register. 

Back at the house we still didn't have enough steps but it had been a very nice walk. Sorry, photos don't tell that. Considering that Germany has less space and so many people, especially in this very populated industrial area, there are many nice areas for recreation.

The picture of goodies Maren had bought for her cousins and kids. We have to see how much we can get into the suitcases.

Ute wanted to celebrate. We are having such a good time.

Uh yes, and I have such good cards.

When Ute brings us back to Tobi and Many we sit for a little while outside. When I look at the sky Manu tells me that the crane is there only since a few days ago. That tower is part of the city indoor pool and that is going to be renovated.

They also have a good size garden. I think this is what we would call a she-shed, a lovely garden room. Next to it (not in the photo) is the nice outside corner we sat in.

They have made their place very nice and comfy. We are grateful and happy for their hospitality.
