This and That

Better write a blog before I get "scolded" again (which kind of pleased me to be honest). The monthly church newsletter is almost done - out to be proofed. It is Good Friday. James just came home with these:

Ha-ha, the American version of our British tradition. One of these days (oh no, probably years) I will try to bake hot cross buns myself.

But they are not only sugar. Instead of elevenses it was ten-ses but we sat with a cuppa and talked. Question: Why is it Good Friday?  Good is a strange word for this day. James was right on with his explanation but I googled anyway (you can click on the link). Yes, Karfreitag in Germany. Will call my sister in a minute. Oh, how our gadgets have made some things so nice.

One Monday Sarah had an off-work day. She asked for a little help. The girls used to call me the closet queen but I am giving up my title. She had the lay-out of her pantry all drawn up and the old stuff removed. She is a drill wielding lady. Wondering what Helen is up to when we are there next week?

Surprise, surprise. Wednesday March 21. Really?

Two days later Helen texted that she wanted to see snow pictures. I sent her the above and the one below which I took then.

But the snow caused some havoc because the daycare closed at 2 pm. So we drove "to the other side of the river" and played hard with all three. Fun. Colin and Owen like books. I like the impression on their faces. They get the use of all of Caleb's many which he has already outgrown. We have to keep up with him.

And look at this! Maundy Thursday. T-shirt weather just a few days after the snow. We went briefly before church service to play in the front yard with them.

Caleb's favorite tree right now.

Mommy brought a picnic out. Supper for the twins and snack for Caleb. They love that.

Mommy took a photo too.

And finally - our kitchen is pretty much done. Of course I had said that before but ... the guy who had painted our kitchen cabinets did not such a terrific job. Basically he used the wrong paint. We researched the whole situation and James decided to tackle the painting himself with the right paint after we had received what sounded like good advice.

Because the stuff needs to dry for 8-12 hours between each coat and it being lousy cold outside (which makes it cold in the garage too which is not good for the paint) he did it "portion-wise" in his somewhat cleared office. It took some time. But we didn't mind. So what if this or that cabinet didn't have a door for a few days. Just had to time it between having company.

Somehow it seems a much lighter happy room now and that makes us happy too.

And now: tea time. There are some hot cross buns left.

Mmmmm! Hot cross buns. Mike's mom makes them every year. She makes them a couple of weeks early and they go in the freezer. Unfortunately, I tend to forget to get them out for Good Friday, so they end up being Easter breakfast! Happily, she makes TONS so I can usually count on finding some in the freezer in June!
