No school - Presidents Day

Sunday the 19th

The boys (9, 6, 6) like to go to our church. For 3 Sundays in a row we just could not manage it but this Sunday we decided it was a must. The boys like the children's service. Owen has usually something to say. 

After service we went home and had lunch. We still had time and since the weather was so very nice we went for a walk in our community. The boys always find something to see or do.

We had tickets for the 3 o'clock children's musical "She persisted". We were a bit early. 

The play/musical took about an hour and was adopted from a book by Chelsea Clinton. I must say that I was very impressed. "She persisted" was announced as 5 years and up but that might be a bit young. It had a very good message for children (and adults too) that you don't go to school and are expected to be perfect. The expectation is that you try to do your best and that we all have different talents. It's also ok to ask your teacher for help. 

I was told next day by Sarah that the boys had liked it too.

Wade picked them up in the evening. But next day Monday was no school and we had them again. Sarah's work is (kind of) between their house and owers so she took them to her work place and we picked them up there before work started.

We had done that before and had taken them to breakfast. Last time it was Ihop, this time it was Denny's. See the game machine in the back. Oh how they wanted to have a try. We had a nice breakfast and then they each got two quarters which of course didn't bring any success for anybody. I had asked them beforehand not to be disappointed when this was the outcome. 

We went home to pack a lunch and gave them choices what we should do. They wanted to go to the Museum of History and Culture. We are members so its easy. James and I were amazed how interested they were and how much they liked it. 

At lunch time we went back to the car. The weather was not ideal so we ate lunch there. Then we asked what they wanted to do next and they wanted to go to the VMFA Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (also members). They are next to each other so we drove from one parking lot to the other. We should have walked, ha-ha. 

The boys got a little work-out anyway because they ran the steps up and down ... just because.

This museum too was a success but when everybody was on "overload" we went back home. 

Oh yes, time to play. "Hide the Thimble" is a game I learned when our girls were very little in Windsor from the Aunts in 7a. Caleb had seen a thimble (my mothers) in a sewing bag and was inquiring about it. They could not get enough taking turns to hide it in plain site.  Can you see it in the next photo?

 

Of all the hiding locations I think this was the best. I had forgotten to take the santa hat off William head but the thimble fitted right on it.

Yes, and then it was time for Sarah to come and pick them up. They were happily waiting on the front porch. Ha-ha, anywhere where they can climb.

Those two days were really nice. The boys are very lively but fun. 

What else is there to report? We are very, very busy to get ready for our trip. The next blog will be the start of that. Of course there were still details organizing that. And I was determent to get my (volunteer) work done for the church. The Cloak is out. Here is THE LINK if you are interested. 

Of course there is always something interesting happening with our indoor or outdoor garden. The very neglected porcelain flower is blooming. Must like being neglected.
