Monday April 20
When we had arrived on Saturday, a neighbor of the airbnb came over when we unloaded the car to chat with us. She was very friendly and gave us tips. Later she came again with a flyer to tell us about something special happening right now in the area. BLOEMENDAGEN in Anna Paulowna, another city in the area.
We decided to take the advice and drove there with two cars. Where we parked the cars we were surprised to find out that Anna Paulowna was a daughter of a russian zar and part of the royal Netherlands family because she was married to a prince and became later queen 1840. Several shop windows had portraits and info exhibited.
First we went into a park which was planted with tulips and other flowers much like Keukenhof, just not quite as large.
Needless to say that we were excited and in awe.
But there was more. Different neighborhoods had other activities. Every year they select themes and a lot of houses in a street participate with decorations in there front yards. Here only a few examples but of course the photo of those gigantic chickens has to be included.
We think the theme in this street was TV programs from past years.
And there was a temporary stand with donuts and other delicious smelling baded goods.
James and I shared one.
There was also information about flower mosaic pictures. They were in the neighboring Breezand. These where more a drive-by thing. Again, just a few examples. We were very impressed.
We did find a parking spot to do a little walking in this street. Again a neighborhood thing and the theme must have been workplaces/professions. The decorations were difficult to photograph though.
The church was offen and the church was very interesting.
I had my friend Kim promised to light a candle with prayers in the first church we would find open. Promised kept! We wish you quick healing and lots of wonderful years.
More photos from the car window.
Of course this is a favorite. Amazing. All done with little flower petals mainly from hyacinths.
It was now already past 3 pm and we decided to have a late lunch / early dinner. This time we went into a different eFFe restaurant. Everybody was happy.
Later there were some temptations.
Some laughter and chats.
Corry and Ute had a new recipe from Corry's friend they had visited on the way coming. They improvised with ingredients they could find here. It was vegetarian and very delicious. The soup was just the right thing for the evening.
I can't remember whether we played cards or not but the stepcount for the day was only 7,894. It was a great day though. Thanks to the neighbor's tip.
And here some of the wonderful photos Maren always takes.
(sorry, its too difficult to pluck those into the right time frame)
