Windsor on Monday

I think I have a theme going here with the titles, ha-ha. Didn't know what else to call it.
In the morning Stephen, James and I went up the town. James and I were looking for something. We were not lucky. The men went to Waitrose for grocery shopping and I just wanted to wander around town a little. No particular reason.

Of course I came across the painted horses again. It is actually a fundraiser/awareness event for the World Horse Welfare Organization. I think my church friend Victoria would love this.

Before 11 am every day the band/guard marches from the barracks to the castle. The changing of the guards takes about 20 minutes and then they march back. I could hear them getting ready to come out of the castle again so I lingered around at the Guild Hall. A swarm of school children came down the Guild Hall steps and the leader wanted to know whether the little street was a way to go to the castle. I told her that the soldiers were coming back right on this street (which she obviously didn't know) but she was happy to hear that and the children went to the edge of the street.

This child on Dad's shoulders must be the one in James' video a few days ago.

Another horse. There was also one in a plaza nearby but it was gone the next day. There is a big sign that it can not support anybody sitting on it but somebody must have thought better because it broke and was taken away to be repaired. People!

Birds on the neck and a sloth on the butt.

On the way home I went slowly and looked at the gardens in front of houses. Can't get enough of it.

Jane's house. Not a good picture. It doesn't really show all her flowers. But isn't that a lovely garage door? Parking in Windsor obviously is a big problem but she has two places off the street.

In the afternoon we decided we needed to get some steps again. Stephen "is full of it" ... knowledge! Did you know what a cob and a pen is? A cob is a male swan and a pen is a female. Did you know how you can tell them apart? The cob has a larger knob (called a blackberry) above his beak and has also a thicker neck. When swans are young (last year's cygnets) their beaks are much lighter in color.

This day's walk was to the other lock. Yesterday we went upstream, this day downstream. Picture taken on the other Windsor side of the Eton bridge. Never walked here before.

The Romney Lock. It is much larger and we had a lot of entertainment. Some people rent a boat, not read the directions and just go ahead. OMG, there was a lot of eye-rolling. The lock-keeper just smiled and patiently made "suggestions"... between watering his lawn with a pump from the river water which stopped whenever the lock was open downstream, and the level was low, and mowing.

We walked a different way back which was also interesting.

What a luxury in a town like this. A huge open grassy area for all sorts of events. See the castle in the back?

I had asked Jane whether we could have scotch eggs one day. This with a baked potato and salad was a very nice meal.

Another splendid day. Plenty of steps again today ... 17,305 to be exact. Night night.
