William in Virginia - gone to DC

William's cousins were gone. Plans about their summer had to be made before William's plans were done. James and I decided to take him somewhere. Well, DC with Smithonian Museums was the place. We booked 2 nights in a hotel with parking. We usually liked to take the train when we used to go in Decembers but we thought better to take the car this time.

Tuesday July 15

We had booked a room for 3 people. The Hotel people were quite nice when we arrived at about 1pm and the room was already available. It was quite nice. We had made sure the hotel had also parking but learned afterwards that it was valley parking.

We had settled into the room when we got a call from the valley parking boss. He was most appologetic that the attendant parking our car had broken a window. My first reaction was that it was funny. I thought they were mistaken, had seen the broken windshield and thought it was there fault.

When we got downstairs and they showed us the car, it wasn't so funny because it was the back window.

They were very nice and had already made arrangements to have it fixed. We decided to make the best of it.

We walked from the hotel to the Museum of Air and Space. Oh no. Long lines. And you got to have tickets (booked on line and free). None available for today.

So we wandered on.
Oh wow, all those food stalls. souvenirs, and the heat.

We wandered on to the National Archives Museum. What an impressive building. Difficult to mark but several of the photos in this blog are taken by William = like the next three. He does have a good eye.

The above would have been the main entry but it wasn't. We had to go the steps down again and find a side entrance. This museum (like most) was free and tickets were not necessary. We just walked in. But it was very impressive and worth seeing.

And then we wandered further. So much to see.

But it was very very hot and we were very very thirsty. And also hungry. We finally found a food court and some pizza.

After that we found our way back to the hotel again. Drink some water. Rest our legs.
Then we decided to check out the pool and the roof top. The pool on the third floor was quite tiny and had lots of little children in it.

The roof top had a lovely view but it was too early of that kind of refreshments.

We decided to play our card game in the lobby on the third floor.

About 8 pm we were thinking about dinner. Actually mainly William. We searched on the internet and decided we could walk to a restaurant on the Potomac River. The food was good but nothing special. It was very nice though.

The walk home was definately very nice too. It was a balmy night and we (James and I) mentioned that we had not had that many steps in a long time.
So much to see. So much to do. The photos don't do it any justice. Sorry.
