Asia trip Day 9 - Boracay Island ?

Monday March 6

Why the question mark in the headline?

This is the daily paper we find on our bed when we come back from dinner/entertainment etc. It points out that Borocay Island was declared "World's Best Island" by Travel + Leisure. Many on board were excited. It doesn't have a harbor and the ship was supposed to anchore at 10 am.

We had not booked an excursion (they were all to a beach) because it sounded very good just to walk around and enjoy it that way. Tenders were going all day forth and back.

Nature had a different idea. The wind was too strong which would have made tenders not safe enough. Announcements were made. We were going to keep cruising the South China Sea instead. Lots of appologes but the ship was not going to stop here. Quickly entertainment was rearranged.

We heard from others during the day that this had been there second attempt to go to this island and failed both. James and I didn't mind terribly because the weather was nice with a high of 81 F / 27 C.
We walked around on the ship or sat somewhere in the shade.

We played cards in the room with the door open. Lovely.

It was also announced that the speaker had volunteered to give another talk at 11 am. Dr Ainslie Waldon told us that she had many talks on her computer because she is a member of Mensa (the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world. It is a non-profit organisation open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardised, supervised IQ or other approved intelligence test) and even used to be on the board.
Her talk was named: The Quirky Life of Albert Einstein. We must say that it was very nice and even funny.

Other entertainment was offered but we were happy just to "chill". We had brought books and of course I fight with the internet and write the blogs. Amazing how fast the time went.

For 5:45 pm we had an invitation to a private cocktail party exclusively for Oceania Club Members (more than one cruise) and we had nice conversations with people we had not met yet. Two couples were from England and when it was over we even relocated to continue our conversations.

For 8 pm James and I had dinner reservations for the Polo Grill. There are two "specialty restaurants" were you have to make reservations in advance. Everybody had kept telling us we should. We were not so keen on having a specific time we needed to go to dinner. We like it that we can just show up when it suits us but it was very nice.

James had foie gras again which was presented differently this time than a few days ago which he had liked much better.

I was excited when I saw that escargots were on the menu. I was disappointed though because they were not in garlic and parsley butter. This was rather plain testing and the pastry rather stale. Oh well.

But really, it was a very nice dinner and I didn't leave anything of the key lime pie behind either.

We barely made it to the show at 9:30 pm. It started with the modern violinist Yoomia Sim. Unbelievable how she could play her instrument.

Then Foggie gave us more from his repertoire. That was excellent too.

There was also karaoke offered afterwards in the Horizons but we skipped the nightcap this day.

I love that you two are able to "roll with the punches" when things don't go to plan. Makes for SO mucn nicer traveling. I am a fellow escargot lover and agree with you that they beg for lots of garlic butter!
