Trip Day 9 - Bar Harbor, Maine

Friday June 1

We had one more hour to sleep in the night and we took advantage of it. James wanted to do his walk around on deck #6 but after only one loop he had to give up because the crew was getting ready to let the tenders down. But we watched from the balcony.

We are back in the USA so the first thing we have to do this morning is go through immigration. Last night we found instructions in the cabin explaining excactly how it will go. James and I were later than Kate and Dave because we have USA passports. So we had a table on the pool deck and kept meeting there for breakfast before and after what we had to do. All was quite leisurely and very efficient.

Finally around 10 am we could go to shore. No waiting at the tender.

Of course right there at the harbor was also tourist information. We were told that there was a lovely walk along the shore. That's what we decided to do. And yes, it was lovely.

The walk was above the beach but I asked James "what's the matter because you always put your feet in every sea?" So of course he went.

Uuhh, too cold for James.

Yes, the walk was very lovely. We walked passt a lot of incredible estates. And the view over the ocean ...

Then we turned right along a street and past a hospital to a main street parallel with the walk. There were shops where we had a quick poke. We were thirsty. Finally we found a nice place and could sit upstairs under an umbrella. The server was hopeless though. As soon as he had heard that we didn't want to eat he had not much interest in us. He was very new (probably a student on summer break and must not have heard of that tips come from HOW you treat people). He took our drink order which were different beers but screwed them all up. When he gave me my can (!) it was already open but it was not what I ordered. He said they didn't have what I ordered so he brought me something else ... and left. Then David found that he had not gotten what he had ordered. Long story short ... the server had just mixed up our orders. But there was no telling him.
Oh well, after we had straightened ourselves out it was all very refreshing.

We toddled back, past a lot more shops, to the harbor and the tenders. The last tender was going 4:30 pm but we didn't want to wait so long.
Ha-ha, does the next photo look like a tender moment on the tender?

Back on the ship. When I went to wash my hands in a public ladies room I noticed when exiting how seriously the ship takes keeping everybody healthy. Of course many stations have the disinfection dispensers too. I find the one-time real towels very handy for that.

I spent a little time on deck taking in the scenic view. It was so nice. Also watching the big four-mast sailboat go by etc etc.

The ship started leaving shortly after 5 pm. We watched them pull all the tenders in. And then the fog rolled in. And got thicker and thicker. Rather romantic looking somehow. Last night we were asked to have our curtains pulled in the dining room because it shone into other guest's eyes. Not necessary tonight.

At 7 pm there was a Trivia Game in one of the bars. Kate and David do it quite often in their pub so we participated. We were a bit hopeless but had fun nevertheless.

Dinner: a bit disappointing tonight.

I had this which was something supposed to be very soft with figs and it was hard as a rock. First dessert I didn't eat since I didn't want to break any teeth.

Our waiter Rai noticed and insisted to bring me something else.

Kate's and James' baked Alaska was floating away.

After the coffee Rai presented us with another one of his magic tricks. Really cool.

Entertainment in the Showroom at 10 pm was "Variety". Andrew Kennedy the comedian and Greg Rodman the guitarist did each half. The comedian was better this time and Greg Rodman first class as before. Very nice.

We enjoyed a nightcap somewhere. Then it was finishing packing. Suitcases were supposed to be out by midnight.

No towel art tonight!
